The Q&A - Part 1
Some time ago, we've made a legacy blog post on the Blokoto website asking for questions from you guys for us to answer them. We actually had a whole plan about answering everyone through a YouTube video, but I ended up deciding to go with an text-based response through the blog to answer everyone equally. We may still make a video on it through Shorts, making each short dedicated to one single question and one single answer, so stay tuned at our YouTube Channel!
In this blog post, I'll answer some of the questions made in this blog post. We've decided to split everything into parts, we did not really want to make one giant post, specially due to us receiving a lot of great and complex questions, and I want to actually give an elaborated answer to everyone.
Without further a do, let's begin!
@Thiaguinhojunior: Do you plan on expanding the Blokoto brand in the future? Movies, Series, Shows and Events?
Blokoto is still a very new brand. The characters, the story and the lore still need to grow before we start to plan something fantastic with it. I, personally, believe that it would be interesting to have a short film with the characters, maybe even serving as a trailer for the game, but, as I said, there's still a lot of work necessary for character development & defining the personalities and styles of the characters.
@Koolfi3st4: Taking into consideration the interest of the community in project creation, are there any plans for tools that serve a more advanced purpose instead of the basic tools we currently have? As an example, will we see advanced logic systems, NPCs, or interactive elements that allow more complex projects and adventures to be built, such as puzzle maps, adventure projects with a built-in story, and unique minigames?
We do plan to add these advanced functionalities as the game progresses with the usual updates. The logic system in particular is something huge, which will be released soon, but in a different way than you may expect. It'll be a simple system that'll allow the creation of cool games without the mandatory knowledge of programmation.
@MineLitz: Do you have any partnerships with other companies/games in mind for the future?
We could maybe do partnerships in the form of crossovers with other brand, but that's a distant dream. Doing partnerships right now in the corporative world requires a LOT of resources, and also a lot of popularity. Right now though, it would be awesome to do partnerships with other indie studios.
@NandoLECAU: Do you pretend to add the same features that KoGaMa currently has?
Blokoto isn't a recriation of KoGaMa. We have our own ideas that are currently in development. The features that we do have in common with KoGaMa are the way the workflow works, and the building system, but everything was made from scratch with the thought of making Blokoto something unique.
@Lukaaa-G: 1- Do you plan on adding new members to the staff team?
2- How many hours per day do you dedicate to Blokoto's development?
3- Would you consider adding a new currency to Blokoto, such as "Tickets" from Roblox and "Silver" from KoGaMa?
4- Without taking the Mechanix into consideration, what would be the feature that you want to add the most to the game, but haven't started working on it yet?
5- Could you give me a shout-out? :)
- Currently, I've taken some efforts into making the staff team a bit larger, we currently have new members as moderators, and new members acting on the event management side of things, but taking care of a team like this is complicated and a lot of organization from myself. I do plan in expanding the team, specially if we're talking about event management. Members for programmation are a bit more complicated, and I'm not planning on adding anyone yet.
- I currently work 12 hours per day on the game, from 9AM all the way until 10PM. It's a LOT of time, but sometimes it still feels like it's not enough.
- We from the staff team have planned something about a new currency, but, keeping the economy with one single currency is already pretty challenging, having two would make things even harder. These examples that you mentioned ended up throwing away their secondary coin to properly focus on their main one. This is because the secondary coin inflates really easily, so their value ends up so low that no one really cares about them.
- The feature that I want to add the most to the game is a dialog system. He'll be really similar to the creation of Visual Novels ingame, and it'll expand a lot on the functionalities on games with stories.
Un saludo pa’ ti, Luka_g, y gracias por las preguntas.
@tiziin: 1- What has been the hardest part so far in the development of Blokoto?
2- Have you ever had an idea that looked good on paper but didn’t work in the game?
3- When and how did the first idea for Blokoto come about?
4- What are the next major planned features?
5- Will game creation in Blokoto allow advanced logic like scripting or visual coding?
6- Will users be able to monetize their games or worlds in the future?
7- What excites you the most about the future of the Blokoto community?
8- What feature do you dream of implementing, even if it seems impossible now?
9- If you could define Blokoto in one sentence, what would it be?
1. Multiplayer, without a doubt. Argila, the modeling system, was harder because I was an inexperienced programmer and had to learn a lot of concepts while making it, but multiplayer still gives me headaches today. You need to build a very strong mental map to understand the path of a packet and turn that into code, especially with Blokoto’s multiplayer model being entirely server-side. Combine that with needing the editing system fully synchronized with it, and it's brutal hahaha.
2. Nothing extremely big, but the main ones were trying to create a 3D gizmo (that colorful thing for moving/rotating objects), it was a disaster, very buggy, and more recently, trying to make the game’s look match the website’s. Web design and game UI do not mix, and I found that out the hard way trying to unify both: the result was very bland and boring. The blue interface looks way more charming in-game.
3. Blokoto: the idea dates back a long time. Blokoto: the man, though, is from 2022. I always had in mind the idea of recreating KoGaMa as a fangame. I liked Godot a lot, and one day I started trying to make something like that. I was talking to Winterka and said something like “I could make something like this in 6 months,” and those 6 months became 3 years, and the fangame turned into a completely new and very different game in the end.
4. The main ones are the scripting system and the dialogue system. The others will be additions to the things that already exist.
5. We still don’t know exactly how we’re going to do it. We’re discussing a way to make implementing it fun.
6. Yes, such a system is being considered, and it will be possible to buy things inside games using Blokoins.
7. Definitely the creativity. What motivates me the most today is seeing that the tools, even without reaching their full potential, are being used to create very beautiful and sometimes even impressive avatars and maps. I’m excited to see every creation inside Blokoto.
8. I’m really excited about the dialogue system because it will bring many possibilities for users to create story-driven games and narratives. It’s something I really want, but first I need to focus on making the game more stable and improving the current PvP system, which I don’t want to leave behind.
9. This one is tricky hahaha, but I would say:
“A place on the internet where the shared enthusiasm for modeling and world creation results in the coolest games and the most beautiful avatars.”
@mblithium: Is there any public board where we can see which ideas are considered, planned, in development, discarded, or completed? That would be really useful to avoid repeated ideas or even improve them with new community suggestions.
We used to have a Trello that showed which features were planned some time ago, but it ended up being abandoned. Today we post things on Discord, and the community posts suggestions on our forum, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have someone update the Trello again.
